The Horses

Meet the horses of Sadie Acres!  They all have such unique personalities and each one keeps us entertained on a daily basis.

Penny:

We will start with our resident senior, Penny.  Penny is a 20 year old quarter horse mare.  For my Dad it was love at first sight when he met her, she bears a striking resemblance to his first horse that he had raised from a foal.  Penny's previous owner called her Misty, but she was so much like my Dad's "Penny", when she came to Sadie Acres she was appropriately renamed.

She may be the oldest horse on the property, but she has a lot of go and is an incredible trail horse.  She also has the smoothest trot and lope of any horse on the property.  She does have a stubborn streak and is known for her "muttering" to let you know when she's unhappy.  Penny has been there done that and knows how to take advantage of beginner riders, she once decided it was time to go home, and in the middle of the ride just walked right back to the barn and into her stall.  Luckily the rider was smart enough to duck into the entryway!

Both Penny's at 20 years old

Sadie:

Sadie is about 13-14 years old and is the kindest mare I have ever been around. Thanks to many hours training with our dear friend and trainer, Jessica Hunter, Sadie is extremely responsive and has a beautiful controlled trot and lope.   This was not the case before we found Jess!  We'll have to touch on that later... :)

Sadie is the most kid-friendly horse we have, she walks like she's on eggshells when she has a beginner on her.  She is a lot of fun to ride and she loves to go for experienced riders!  Sadie loves to give kisses and hugs, we need to start working on our next trick!

Rowdy:

Meet Mr. Personality!  Rowdy is our handsome 12 year old Tennessee Walker and is the king of the barn, well, at least in his mind.  Rowdy loves people and LOVES attention.  He really wants to behave, and is such a good boy when you get him to focus, but his curiosity and spunk always seems to get him into trouble.

Rowdy stepped on a nail in February but seems to be on the road to recovery, we are hoping to get him back into conditioning soon and back under saddle. Rowdy is a horse that needs a job!  Just as it was love at first sight when my Dad met Penny, these big brown eyes melted my Mom's heart when she met Rowdy.

Dolly:

You met Mr. Personality, now meet Ms. Personality!  Dolly is our 5 year old Mini and is as funny as she is cute!  Dolly loves attention, apple treats and to show off her pretty smile.  We don't have the heart to tell her she has a bit of an overbite :)  This little one has a lot of spunk but is as sweet as she can be.  She lifts her feet with just a tap, she let our 5 year old nephew ride her and is trained to pull a cart.   Dolly was purchased as a companion to Sadie, but we got so much more!  We love our little girl.
